    Help with head gasket issues?

So on my '87 IS I recently noticed a substantial amount of oil leaking on the exhaust side and towards the rear of my block . I checked the straightness of the valve cover, replaced the valve cover seal and oil cap, checked oil filter etc.... and still oil on my block. Thinking its probably the head gasket leaking?

Also, I've started getting a really crappy idle once the motor warms up and loss of power when accelerating hard. Thought it was a vacuum leak, ICV, or a fuel issue, but it's also started getting pretty hot when i'm not in motion. I know for a fact that I need a fan clutch, but kinda thinking the head gasket could also be a suspect for these issues?

Oil looks ok, and not really any white smoke. However i did flush the coolant recently and it was really nasty. I also checked the the thermostat and it seemed fine. Last but not least does have new plugs, properly gapped.

Any help you guys can give to a newbie would be much appreciated

I'm in the same boat. Bought a 90 325i to part and pondering rather to get it fixed and keep instead. Was told it was a rear main seal leak, but i'm sure it is not. Lots of oil leaking from exhaust side. When test driving, i parked it and a puddle almost size of cd came out. Lots of oil in coolant. Car doesn't heat up past 1/4th...sound like a headgasket? Motor desn't sound very healthy, but it drives and pulls hard considering. Got the car for only $250 and not sure whether to prt or fix; and then wondering how much that would run?

And then there were three. I've been told by 2 specialists that the HG needs replacing on my '87 325is; however, I've got clean coolant, no overheating and the car pulls hard. Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to put the money into the HG + refinish/clean the head or if I can put that money elsewhere (rear wheel bearings, guibo, center support bearing) for now and deal with the HG later.

Complete newbie to E30s so any help from our wise masters is welcome!
