Sheared 2 of 3 Alternator/Power Steering Bracket Bolts. WTF?! Help!

Seriously has ANYONE every seen this before? The belts were installed probably 6 months to a year ago per spec and I haven't had any issues until the other day. It was screeching so I crawled under the car and felt that he power steering pump bracket was fine bu the whole mount was loose. Went up top, removed the intake and filter box and found the alternator was loose. Removed the alternator and found that BOTH the bolts parallel to the length of the block to the sheared off and the one perpendicular (right behind the edge of the crank hub) had become somewhat loose by 1/4".

I assume since it loosened it allowed the bracket to rock forward and backward just enough to shear the bolts.

Anyway how the hell am I supposed to get these jokers out? I doubt an extraction kit would work as the shear is nearly flush with the block. Drill and tap the hole?

    Thanks for the help!

I had same situation. was working under car on something and it's like WTF ? 2 bolts were sheared. anyway mine backed right out. use a 'pick' to try and rotate them. the photo shows there may be a ridge where the bolt sheared, try to hook this with a 90* pick. if tight spray with penetrant. lightly 'center' /offset punch a spot to use a pointed chisel w/ hammer to tap. loosed up they they should back right out. Drill a small off-center hole and slowly tap it out with a pointed chisel. Be patient and good luck.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm currently having the same issue

Only my lower bolt broke, I drilled out a pilot hole and now I've broken and EZ-Out off in it

the ez-out will not come out so easy

any tips? Will the front and upper bolts be enough to hold the alternator? (no p/s on mine)
