    M20 removal...

Alright, so I'm in the process of taking out my motor and rebuilding it. The thing is... I have no idea how.

I have the engine hoist and everything removed. I don't know where to chain up my motor with the hoist... I have no idea what bolts or existing bolts I should use. And I'm not sure if I removed the driveshaft right, do I need to drop the whole driveshaft, or can I just remove the guibo (thats whats attaching it to the tranny right?) and it'll come off when I pull engine/trans?

Please help a noob out lol.. pictures would help too, or a link to a DIY removal? Of all the build threads I've seen, I haven't really seen one step by step haha.

Get a load leveler if you don't already have one.

For chaining up, there should be two spots provided by the factory:

A hole in the back of the block, right above the starter.
A bracket on the front of the head, right next tot he thermostat housing.
-->unfortunately this bracket seems to disappear over the years when idiots do timing belt jobs and forget to put it back on. Has happened twice to me. If this is the case for you it's time to get inventive...I would use a herc strap cradling the engine, and wrapped around the engine mount arms, worked for me.

You can just unbolt the guibo and not pull the DS...but it would be easier to undo the two 13mm bolts @ the CSB, along with the guibo, and pop the front half of the driveshaft off.

**If you plan on doing diff. work while your engine is out, make sure your Ebrake is in good shape/adjusted...or undo things in the back first THEN take out the engine/tranny.

        wow quick response lol

is there something to bolt the chains too? because the end of the chains dont have hooks, so i would have to find a bolt and bolt it through the chains

as for the guibo, how do I get to the other bolts, since I have the vibration damper, I can only access 3 out of the 6 bolts... its a little hard with that damper in the way.

You'll need "hooks." These being the best type IMO. Just need to get the right size, the rear hole is a tight fit.

Only three bolts hold the guibo on...three go from tranny flange to guibo, three go from driveshaft flange to guibo. If you can get three bolts off (that have the same orientation) the DS and tranny will separate.

Your local hardware store will likely have them.

                Good luck!

Make sure you mark the wires you take apart, I recommend colored wire ties. Don't forget to take pics for reference later, especially like different length bolts, how stuff fits together, etc. Pics can really help with the memory!

It is much easier to pull the engine and the tranny together, am much easier to put back in. and all you have to do is get 3 of the bolts off the guibo. 3 hold it to the tranny and 3 hold it to the drive shaft.
