    My first headjob

Okay I bought this 325i and it wouldn't start. The car had been sitting for around 8 months. I get it towed home and finally diagnose the broken timing belt. Pulled off the valve cover and found a broken rocker arm. Anyway I've finally gotten the head off and I want opinions on cylinders 1 and 5 being oily and the other cylinders looking "rusty" Can someone tell me what I'm looking at here? I'm going to rebuild the head. Can I use this block as it sits?

yeah..rusty means either coolant was getting into the combustion chamber or the spark plugs were out for some time and moisture got in. Since it was sitting for 8 months -not surprised. the oil in the other cylinders might explain the head might be warped and leaking oil either from the valve cover was leaking down-accumulation over time. Or, it looks oily because of the carbon and moisture mixing. the block is more then likely fine. You will need to rebuild the head, new valve guides and seals, along with new rockers and depending on the wear on the cam replace both. We really never put new rockers with a use cam. Once that is done..bolt the head down and you're good to go. But while you have the head off..wouldn't hurt to clean up the piston tops and the mating surface of the block.
