    A/c ? R-12

couple years ago I turned on my ac button and hella smoke came out, Im GUESSING compressor bearing.

If I just get a new compressor (used) would you think it to work?
I also scored some r12 so a top off shall follow

I had the same thing happen to me. There is a very good chance that when your compressor went it sent "black death" nastiness throughout your system. I would highly suggest removing the entire system and finding an AC shop to flush the lines, compressor, condenser and evaporator. They will likely find some nasty stuff hanging out in there.

When you rebuild the rest of your system, make sure you are also replacing the expansion valve (known to get clogged, especially after a compressor failure) and receiver/drier.

As far as the gas is concerned, try to stick with R12 or some of the alternatives such as Freeze 12 or Envirosafe. Converting to 134A trashed my last compressor.

    Hope that helps.

converting to 134a will not trash your system, not vacuuming the system down, leaving moisture in system, not flushing system after compressor failure, not charging system properly, these things will trash your system. If you convert to 134, get the correct expansion valve or it may not cool as well as you would like it too.
