    272 Cam opinions

Hi everyone, I did some searching and didnt find anything recent thus the new thread. Little background, I have had my car for 6 months and done all the maintence/ refresh I can think of. The M20 runs great I went with the MAF from miller, some 19#'s and the tune.
I am thinking the 272 cam from IE for a little something extra because it looks affordable and adds a little.
I thought to do this with full freer flow exhaust, and hopefully ms. I am budget minded, I have no plan for turbo or stroker or tearing into the bottom. Also, I am not a weekend racer simply an excited daily driver.
So is anyone running a 272 and any thoughts or ideas. Im thinking and hoping this would be a saturday project to install, or am I way off base there?
    Thank you all
I love that people ask stupid questions so I dont have.

Based off of your reasoning, a 272 would be the next step in terms of performance. Above that would a turbo or stroker setup, which is a different level of performance altogether. Keep in mind that when going to a new cam it's a good idea to throw some new rockers in there and check how your existing springs and other components are holding up.

Another note is to decide if you'd be running a regrind or a new Billet. A reground cam while likely need to run some lash caps or oversize eccentrics (depending on your engine), this has been discussed in depth before ( a simply sight search should bring it up). A new billet cam would not require oversize eccentrics since the cam is initially ground to spec from a rough casting, unlike a reground cam which has already been ground (and needs to have it's base circle reduced to achieve a higher lift).

I used a new Billet 272 IE cam. Good fit and finish. If you are installing a cam I recommend that you take your head into a machine shop to get cleaned up and tested. If you have a bit of extra cash to spend consider a three angle valve job. The three angle job will help your head flow and compliment your cam very well. That amount of work at a reputable machine shop should be $400-$500. It's worth it.

I have a new billet 272 from IE and i'm very happy with it. You can't just drop it in and expect crazy hp gains though, you have to get the head to breathe better. Like deutschman said, a three angle valve job or porting the head will do it wonders.

Thank you for this insight. I was not thinking This would equate to huge gains, just improved. I like the M20, and the goal is to not spend more than the cost of a 24V swap.
