    Pitted/cracked pistons, what do?

I bought these M20B25 short skirt pistons off of a forum member last week. When they got to my house they were packaged with fucking grocery bags. Cleaned them off and this is what I find:

Pretty much all but one piston is either cracked or pitted. Got one good one. FWIW, the cracks don't look too deep...

So what do I do? Is this something that a machine shop would be able to take care of or do I need to get new pistons?

It's not worth the effort to repair those. If it just a nick or two that would be one thing but the cracks are going to fail. This is for boost, right?

I take it, the crack is just into the skirt and ends at the base of the inner notch or step.
If so, easy fix. chuck it up on the leath and turn down the piston skirt 2mm
It will not affect the piston at all, this is done when buillding a 2.8 stroker.

These pictures are from the 2.8 I'm building now..

I'm not nearly as concerned about the skirt cracks and dings as I am with how the ring grooves look. The ring grooves look worn to me and that makes those pistons recycle bin material.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I am in semi-doubt. You guys think there's no chance for salvation in these pistons? I got them for a steal. I don't mind spending money to have a machine shop play with them since I was going to have them do so anyways.

I do need some eta rods... but I think I MAY be able to borrow a set from a friend and replace them with mine when I get this built. Unless you have some for cheap?

His username is Jargo. I'm really not trying to start a huge thing over this, I sent him a PM, and I hope we can just work something out. It's not like I spent my life savings on these pistons so I'm not too upset about it.

And yes this is for a 2.8L which will more than likely be boosted before the summer.

I'm building my 2.8 with the intent of turbo.

And you think my pistons will be fine? I guess I could take them to a machine shop and see what they say.

                Do you have eta rods?

I haven't seen all of it only whats in the pictures, but if that's the worst
It wouldn't hurt to have them checked out by a machine shop.

Yes i have a set, but only one set and I need them for my build.
You should have no problem finding a set... Dime a dozen here on R3V..

the rods I was offering are "I" rods 135mm

What is in the pictures is the worst of it. Only two cracks and just a few nicks here and there. I'm going to see if I can take them to a shop this weekend, if I do then I will update this thread with what goes down.

Ya if that's the worst, you should be fine.
You'll want to take them down about 2mm

                      they should clean up ok..
