    Dme's

Can anyone or someone explain the differences in dmes, i understand the difference in j-tronic and motronic. but i see 153 173 1.3 1.1, then you read the numbers on the labels and there are many differences. different cars? or just different man. labels?

A 153 is a Motronic 1.1 DME. The 173 and higher numbers are Motronic 1.3. From the 173 on the higher numbers represent manufacturing variation in the DME over the course of production.

The 525 DME out of your 88 325i is a Motronic 1.3 (525 > 173). The 88 would have had a 173 from the factory, someone has swapped out that DME at some point in the past. The 027 DME from the 87 is what you find in all ETA cars, I believe.

Ok i got you the last three numbers are what counts. Ok next question is with that 525 dme will work with any I engine harness that plugs in to that style of course. For instance i have an 87I harness 55 pin i believe i can buy any 55 pin dme and it will work?

You can use any Motronic 1.1 or 1.3 DME in an 87 and up M20B25 powered car (325i/is/ic/ix)
