    Just to clarify, you don't need the WAR chip to use the MAF. The WAR chip is a device that lets you change the tune. If you don't need to stray from a stock based tune , the MAF for $315 comes with a performance chip that recalibrates the ECU for use with the MAF as well optimizes timing and fuel for bet mileage at cruise and best performance and acceleration.

    When comparing to standard chips, the MAF, or any good MAF conversion for that matter offers much more for only a little bit more cost.

      I do agree and understand now our m20b25 come pretty solid out of the box. But of course being a man with a shed fool of tools all you want to do is experiment.

      Finding the best combination of kick for my cabrio has proven to be the most difficult task so far.

      But I may have come to a project which I'd like to venture into.

      Now I understand MAF's do make a noticeable and significant difference in our m20's. As I mentioned before my e30 is a DD and I do go on road trips with it. Now the Miller MAF set up (not w/WAR chip) seems to be a good route to take. In addition to the Miller, I also discovered KAMOTORS CAI may be beneficial (also looks cool).

      Any ideas or comments

        +1. Ive looked at stand alone performance chips and based on cost and performance. it seems as if Miller is the way to go.

        also my e30 has a 525 ECU. if I'm not mistaken that is a 173 ECU correct?

          It is a 525 ECU, but you can interchange the chips from the 173 no problem. Any of the Motronic 1.3 ECU's work with each others chips.

          The Kamotors intake is a nice piece. We have a number of customers using it with our MAF on their DD.

              CAI looks clean and sounds throaty, but won't make a performance difference.

              As for gaining the best performance per buck, it's been said on these forums and elsewhere that the best performance investment on an e30 is driving school.
