    Intake Pipe Breather thingy....

    Intake Pipe Breather thingy....
OK so I had a smoke test done on my car today. The pipe that comes up from the oil pan to the intake is most likely the culprit of my high idle.
My question is how hard is it to change? Dose the entire intake have to come off?

They don't call it the bitch tube for nothing. No the intake doesn't have to come off. I think there is a DIY somewhere out there, just google 'm20 bitch tube'.

Yes, the intake will have to come off to change the seals on that tube.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Correct, You can get the tube out without removing the intake.

Yes, (at least for me on M20) as my top seal was stuck good to the intake manifold.

To get manifold off I disconnected fuel lines, injector harness, drained coolant, removed thermostat housing and throttle body. Maybe more than "needed" but intake track was gross from the ERG gunk anyways so good excuse to clean it all up shiny. You will need new intake manifold gasket to reinstall and maybe throttle body too.

Just a tip: When you compress the spring you can hold it in the compressed position with zip ties. Then you are free to stick it into the block and lower the manifold on without any issues. Once its positioned correctly just cut the zip ties off and it should seat properly.

Get the seals from any parts supplier, o-ring on top and o-ring on bottom.

Do new intake manifold gaskets at the same time, it's all really cheap.

If you have a friend, or two the "bitch tube" is quite easy.

the bitch tube has never really been a bitch tube for me, quite simple actually. I don't think I've ever messed with it with the intake still on, though.

Mine is so old and covered in oil that I don't even need zip ties to hold it down... i can just kind of push on it and it'll stay down. Doesn't leak either. Nice.
