A few days ago, my m10 powered 318i decided to quit on me on my way home from work. Pretty sure the timing chain slipped and it bent at least one valve. I am planning on figuring out if this is the issue for sure this weekend. In the meantime, I found a craigslist ad for an ETA M20 for 50 bucks. Before people shoot me down like I have seen on many posts like this because it is the ETA, I will say that the most important thing right now is getting it running again as soon as possible, not gaining more power. Assuming the engine is shot, what would I need to make the m20 fit? I have not been able to find a GOOD list of what is not interchangeable. What kind of total cost am I looking at? Is this a good opportunity or should I just try to find another m10?

You need a new transmission, driveshaft and management. As well as exhaust and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a proper sized radiator for a 6 cyl.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

How about engine mounts? because the 84 318i has the subframe mounted differently.View my build thread. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=287724
