    starter issue

For some reason my starter died randomly today at exactly 134,000 miles. I went to go start the car and the starter doesn't click, try to engage or anything, just silence as I turn the key... what are the odds that a starter just randomly dies from sitting for 1 day? I checked it and its getting power and I've tried hitting it to see if its stuck but nothing works.

Does the solenoid get power when the key is turned to start?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I tried touching a wire from the power to a ground spot with out a key in and it sparked. what would the procedure be to check the solenoid? its acting as if its not even connected, no tick at all.

        check main relay
        check all grounds
it may just be a dead starter.

my dad's 1992 vert's started died w/o warning the the solenoid did click though.
        Much wow

Use a test light or meter to see if power reaches the solenoid control lead when the key is turned to start.

so the power wire connected to the starter is getting power, I tried jump starting the car in case maybe my battery was low or something and there was no improvement. Also my brake fluid light on my dash gets brighter when I turn the key.

Mine just went out, same exact way

After I had it out, hook up 12V to it and it still does nothing

and fixed! I rocked the car back and forth in park and nothing improved, put it in neutral and it started right up I'm guessing it wasn't getting signal that the vehicle was in park. So I may have a bad wire to tell that the vehicle is in park.
