Jlevie and mr 325 are 100% right. The VR kit is fine. Do the new head bolts. Do a waterpump and timing belt. Just take the radiator out during the job. It makes a hell of a lot more room when replacing the water pump and you won't need a slim wrench(just wedge the fan shroud past the fan). Have the head resurfaced, reground and replace the seals(theyre like 13 bucks). It shouldnt be more then 3-400 at most. Make sure to run a blow gun through the overhead oil tube to make sure it isnt backed up. Theyre known to start clogging on motors without the oil changed regularly. Check the cam for excessive wear. Replace any belts if needed. A TB gasket was NOT included in my VR gasket set, btw. Also I can't remember if it was included in the kit but make sure to do the cam seal as well. The machine shop will probably take care of it for you if you inquire. Quadruple check your timing after reassembly!!!

I would definatly get my head resurfaced. The smallest amout of warp will cause it to leak.. just found that out myself.

Good thing I pulled my head.

There was a 5in crack. I don't know how it didn't screw anything up.

Also found out the m20b20 head is a little different than the m20b25 head so it wasn't as easy tracking one down since the m20b20 with the 731 head wasn't on any NA cars. Found one from a 520i though.

Contemplated just doing a m20b25 swap, but going to keep the integrity of this machine, maybe once school is done get a beater e30 and make a fun project.
