    Wierd Cold Start Issue

Bought a 1987 E30 Vert early last month. Been having some cold start issues that I cant seem to resolve. If the car sits for a day or two it starts fine, goes into a high idle (1000 rpm) and stays there until warm, then kinda bogs down t0 500 and stays there, runs fine after that. Now the problem happens when its been ran that day, but cools all the way down. Then sometimes it'll start then die or i have to give it gas for a couple seconds (10-15) then feather down the amount of gas I'm giving it till 500 and it'll stay there.

I've changed out plugs, cap, rotor, timing belt, adjusted valves, changed the oil/ filter, flushed the coolant, has a strong battery, new airfilter. I've also checked and cleaned the MAF type thing and checked all vacuum lines for cracks.

Once she warms up she runs fine with the exception of an occasional high idle when I come come to a stop, which usually reduces to normal after 10 seconds.

That's awesome. I have friends who make coffee for a living, but you don't see me rocking out a bunch of lattes

I took some brake cleaner to it, and let it dry then put it back on, no real difference. Is there a more in depth way of cleaning it?

Anyway to test the fuel pressure regulator? Also I noticed I'm getting fouling on one side of my plugs, kind of a oil/ fuel mix, I'll pull one and snap a pic tomorrow. But it's happening on all cylinders, so I'm thinking I may just be running rich?

I think that's the only way you can really clean it. Does it make a humming noise when you turn the key on the second position? If not its broken

Yes if you touch the ICV with the key in pos. II then it should buzz.

If you want to check the FPR, pull off the vacuum line going to the FPR and smell it for scents of gasoline. You can also see if fuel comes out of the regulator vacuum port. If it smells like fuel or leaks fuel then the diaphragm is torn and the FPR needs replacement.

What happens when you 'blip' the throttle?

ICV hums, FPR vacuum line was dry and no smell of gas.

                    Check your cold start injector.
