My first suspicion would be the alarm (or its mods to the car). If the alarm included drive away protection it would have had to interrupt spark or fuel to prevent the engine from running. So that is where I'd start.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

In my opinion I got rid of the entire alarm underneath the steering column.
All wires going into the alarm box where followed and unplugged.

I don't doubt that you removed the alarm. But as I said, if the alarm included drive away protection it had to interrupt something that would prevent the engine from running. That is what I'd be looking for now.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
