Knocking Type Sound From Engine Updated w/ vid!

So I just replaced my head gasket, timing belt and all those goodies.

She fires up and runs now but there's a couple new sounds.

So it's a new head so maybe it may sound a bit different than I'm used to (same head number though, but it's an earlier year). I hear an almost knocking type sound. I don't know if it's a problem or if my loud valves from before just always masked the sound.

Another weird sound I'm hearing is a high pitched whine when I give it some throttle. Doesn't really sound like it's coming from a belt. Could it be from a vaccum leak or something?

    Thanks for the help.

    EDIT: Update with video

Alright so I fixed the whining sound, just didn't have something tightened (idiot)

Now it's on to this knocking sound, I took a video, please take a listen.

To hear it you kind of need to listen "past" the valves if you know what I mean.

I want to know if this is just because I need higher octane fuel or if this sounds like a serious issue, and what is it.

When you installed the head were both dowels in the block? If even one was missing the head may not be properly positioned over the cylinders and a piston might be tapping the head.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

            Rod knock or piston slap?

I don't know really, I'm just making suggestions. Maybe search videos for those sounds.

I looked up videos but they all sound worse than mine so I'm not really sure.

Having just watched the video I'd say that the vales are way out of adjustment, or the cam is mistimed and valves are kissing pistons.

pull that valve cover off and check your valve adjustments. Only thing that comes to mind on this engine that would sound like that. If the pistons were kissing your valves, it wouldn't be running (anymore.)

I'm fairly confident the timing is okay as it drives fine and feels like all cylinders are firing fine.

I'll re check the timing this evening. It was my first time doing it so maybe I was a little lenient on the spacing.

mine does that because of worn rockers and cam. why was your original head not usable? jw.

was the new head rebuilt? It could have worn rockers and possibly scored up cam

Anyone have any tips for rotating the camshaft without re draining the coolant and pulling the rad?
