I have a complete and rebuilt m20b25 I was going to toss into my 1984 325e, the downside is my car needs a bunch of bodywork and gaskets ($$$) I am planning on looking at a 91 318is with a clean body but no interior and a blown engine sometime in the coming week.
How hard is the install electrically? I will have access to side by side hoists in a shop with 2 other certified BMW techs helping so mechanically I think I should be ok. Plan would be to drop both subframes out the bottom and replace the b27 with the b25 along with a rack swap to the e36 unit. Bolt the converted setup into the 318 and change over all the underhood bits. Diff can be swapped easily enough. Does the m20 harness connect to the M42 C101 or are they different (or in different locations). I have multiple m20 M1.3 harnesses and a 173 DME.
No recomendations for an m50 swap please, the m20 is fresh and ready to go and I would take a large loss to sell. I've also got all brand new bushings, mounts, clutch, exhaust, mounts, vac/fuel/coolant hoses ready to go during the swap.
