Bad starter - how to rebuild?

My car has been making a grinding noise right after starting. The car starts perfectly every time, has no problem cranking over, just makes this grinding noise for about 1 second right after starting. I believe it is the starter having trouble disengaging (bad solenoid?). I just pulled the starter out of the car, as I have the head off already for a new head gasket.

Looking at the thing, I don't know how to go about rebuilding it, or if I should try. Is there a DIY out there somewhere for rebuilding these? If not, where should I go to get it rebuilt? Then again, option 3 is to just get a new one. Opinions?

you can get them re-manufactured for dirt cheap. that would be the easiest way to do it. like $50ish
