I believe these chips will be complimented with the installation of 17.5 or 19 lb injectors. I just did a 17.5 injector swap this weekend and the car feels smoother. And I have been running an eBay chip on stock injectors before the swap. Also did a valve adjustment, so that may have helped a bit.

summer of 2006 - For those of you who look at the total cost of any modification you make to an engine, in terms of cost per RWHP gained,...resulted in a cost of $12.66 per HP ($200/15.8 RWHP=$12.66) gained!
Looks like some of these newer chips, that are affordable to the average e30 owner, will bring in even more HP/dollar. That's good to know that progress is being made.

Here are my results, using a Mark D'Sylva chip in an '027' ECU and dyno test results at York Auto. With the addition of a 3.46 LSD Diff, my '83 528e has gained a major performance improvement. I also comment on my experience with Dinan and Conforti chip tests in the same car. I have a Metric Mechanic HiFlo ST Cylinder Head, but have not yet installed it, due to other priorities which keep stealing my time. You know it how goes.

I could do 4 different setups on the dyno... Test them all on STOCK injectors. back to back...

Sigh... Maybe I should find out how much it would cost. I's curious.
But see, even a stack of completely stock 173 ECUs can give you different HP levels. That's a little cheater technique you get from racing in a spec series. So it would technically have to be the same ECU with the only thing changing would be the chip.

Butt dyno results? (assuming they're fairly similarly modded otherwise)

    Sorry for the delay guys.

The shop we take our cars to for the dyno has had theirs tied up. The owner just finished his 6.2 ls swap into a Foxbody. It may take longer than expected.

At times, felt like it had some power but prolly only in my head of hopes. Maybe it needs sometime to adapt.

On another note, today was busy! Got a Cobalt SS/TC tune in, and C/F wrapped the roof of an STI. Business is boomin!

    Got mine too!

So I have had a few hurdles to jump today. I decided to go ahead and install the 19lb injectors first. Before you give me crap, remember this is about the horsepower gain from the CHIP only, so it makes sense to have the injectors installed for the baseline. Plus I didn't want to be taking up precious dyno time installing them.

Got the injectors in, I was a little concerned when I found that 2 came out missing their caps. After some careful consideration and inspection of the injectors themselves we came to the conclusion that they had been missing for a while. Nevertheless, we ran one of those bolt grabbers down into the intake to check for any loose items, everything checked out. After installing the new injectors we disconnected the coil pack for a couple turn overs to check for noise, all seemed well so I started it up.

I recommend 19lb injectors to anyone without a tune even. Idles smoother, and just plain runs better.

Then came the chip install (don't worry, we are working on getting dyno time, at which point the chip will be swapped back out for before and after runs) I removed the ECM to find a 153 in there.

That's OK, I informed my business partner that his Vert' that is just sitting will be a donor car for now. Swapped his 173 ECM into mine, and did a test start. Ran great. Then I installed the chip, filled her up with some 93 octane and went for a drive.

Honestly, I can't feel any difference other than a smoooooooth power band and the 7k rev limiter will be nice for auto-X.

lucky for us, the butt dyno won't be the only test to see for sure. We are hoping to get the car on the dyno this week or early next. Stay tuned for real numbers!
