car will no start this makes no sence

OK so i was out drifting the other day and the car died literally in the middle of a drift and wouldnt restart. I do not here the fuel pump so i puled fuel line off at pump and no fuel. So then i i throw a 12v source on the pump and it works. i havent checked the pressure yet. So know while i have the 12v on the pump pumping fuel and i turn the car over it still wont start. So then i took 12v off the pump hooked back up the connector and threw starting fluid in it and she runs with starting fluid but not with an external 12v power source while trying to start. Any one have any suggestion? The car is an 86 325es manual thanks

    UPDATE: 3-13-12
I have spark. I have 12v to the main engine relay and i have 12v leaving the relay with the key in the on position. Now at the connector to the ecu with the key off i have no power to any of the pins. With the key in the on position i have maybe max 1.5v on 2 pins. I had the key in the on position and jumped the fuel pump relay (farthest to the right) and checked voltage at the fuel pump under the car and had nothing. Any suggestions? im stumped all fuses are good. I have checked and rechecked.

Are you sure you have spark? I know a common issue is the crank position sensor (CPS) and if that tweaks out it kills everything to keep the engine from detonating. This damn $40 sensor gave me a giant headache for weeks before I got on a proper forum for guidance.

It's like your trying to say something. But I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Yes it has spark it runs with starting fluid. Eta will drift learn to drive them like they want to be driven.

Can you check for fuel at the rail?

Do you know how to jumper the Fuel Pump Relay?

I have absolutly no fuel leaving the tank. I have the fuel line off so when i get fuel i will no. i am going to check for voltage at the injecors tomarrow.

Fixed it it ended up being the green wire from the realy socked 87 that supplys power to the fuel pump. It broke at the factory connection under the rear seat about a foot before it passes threw the rubber graument.
