    Super eta questions

I posted a question a week or so ago about what motor was better, the e or I for trackday use. Everyone said the Super ETA was better with the I head.

Is there some info on it somewhere? Why is this engine better? What are the numbers (hp, torque)from it?

I also read somewhere that it has an I head already? Another source said you swap one from a m20b25.

    Please clear it up

A Super ETA with an I top end, intake & throttle body, injectors & FPR, AFM, DME, and a good tune should out perform an M20B25.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I *believe* that the heads are almost identical, but the i head has two extra oil passages than the e head. You can either drill them out or just plop on an 'i' head.

By the time you source all of the individual parts your best bet is probably to find an entire i motor and computer for the swap, and then you have to chip it.

That is correct. It is the same casting but meant for a different cam with fewer journals. The other difference (besides the cam) will be the valve springs.

I definitely saw a dyno print out of a 2.7 stroker, the very one people like to daydream about a super eta with the I head

and the dyno came out EXACTLY like a b25. And it does not even make sense but it did. Its on an e30 forum somewhere someone can find it.

On the opposite end I have never seen evidence that it outperforms a b25 other than people who have never driven one think it should.

Aparently it requires a chip which does not exist. Thats what the owner claimed. So I pass that on

you use any 325i chip, remember running a 173ecu.

i'll dyno mine after i break it in, im hoping for way better numbers than a gay stock m20b25

If done correctly, peak power will roughly the same as an M20B25, but the area under the torque curve will be greater. The factory tune in the DME won't be ideal, nor will the tune in a chip for a 173 DME. To get the most out of the engine some dyno time and a WAR chip or a MegaSquirt will be required.

                        Yes.

it will only be run NA for 5-7k miles, jet to break it in and plan the turbo build.

IMHO, a 2.7i with hot cam, 19#'s, war chip, ie rockers, and a 7500rpm revlimit would be a blast.
