    Engine RPM fluttering

So yesterday I used some Gunk to clean off my engine, covered most of the electronics, pulled the battery, and used a light spray to hose it off. Let it dry off for a while. Went to start it and it fired right up into a high idle, after it got to temp it started revving up to 1500 then back to 1000 and keeps doing this. It's been over 24 hours and still does it. Before I washed it, it idled fine except for after coming to a stop from driving, it would high idle for 15 seconds then back to the 500-600 range.

That's awesome. I have friends who make coffee for a living, but you don't see me rocking out a bunch of lattes

My guess would be that you caused or made worse an intake leak while cleaning the engine.

Would low fuel cause this? I'm sitting slightly under a quarter tank and now it's not wanting to start. I checked all the vacuum hoses and can't see any cracks. Cleaned the ICV and it's humming in the on position. Only thing I can think of are bad temp sender, or I'm losing fuel pressure.

if it was surging it was trying to find a balance for the idle because it was burning un metered air.

sounds like a leak....Ive used some pretty harsh solutions on engines and none of them caused any problems except open up leaks....stuff I wouldnt let my hand touch for longer then a few seconds I would let soak on and hose off...

I got prettyy reckless with my dodge and it ran like a champ and looked brand new under the hood. Sounds like a leak was unplugged and now its bad....do you hear hissing near the intake mani?

The only thing that's throwing me off is that it idles fine until its warm, then it starts doing the surging. I'll start tearing into it and looking at hoses more in depth.

The other thing throwing me off is that it won't start for a while after I shut it down. It cranks, but won't fire.

Would what appears to be a collapsed brake booster line cause this? It looks like its pinched shut in the middle?

I'm pretty sure it was the temp sensor that was causing it. Because now its running how it used to, but my temp gauge isn't registering anymore. Does this sound right?

Ohm out the ECT sensor and the gauge sensor.

Make sure you didn't swap the connectors for the sensors.

The gauge and DME each have their own temperature sensor. So the gauge not working as nothing to do with the engine problem.
