I picked up a euro spec 320i not long ago and am finally starting some maintenance. Its not getting any fuel. On my eta, I remember when I turn the ignition on, the fuel pump (infront of the drivers rear wheel) hummed. This one just clicks once as soon as the ignition is on. The in-tank pump doesnt seem to make any noise. Im going to pull both of these soon and test them out of the car, but does anyone know much about how these are supposed to act in normal conditions?

The normal operation is for the pumps to be powered up only when the DME sees timing data from a rotating engine. To test the pumps you can jumper the fuel pump relay socket.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

^That. The E30 doesn't run the pump with just the key in the on position. Chances are your ETA was forced to run whenever the key was on from a modification before you owned it.Originally posted by jlevie View Post

Thanks. I took it out of the car and gave it power, but it would only click still, must be seized from sitting for 7 years.Comment
