Compression test results before I boost engine.

    Tested on cold engine.

    From firewall back: 150 145 125 120 145 150

The 120 and 125 concern me.

Would a blown hg cause these numbers to be lower?

Thoughts on using this engine to push 8psi with a .60ar?

Warm it up before testing, they'll probably improve. Not a hell of a lot, but it's worth looking.

Also want to add that I will be replacing my headgasket, and refreshing the head/valvetrain.

Overheated super hard last season, spiked temp gauge in bumper to bumper traffic for a solid 40 minutes.

No coolant on plugs, or burning any however.

Or.... Scrap the m20 and just get one with better comp. Numbers and in blown hg...

If it were me, and I was opening up the engine to refresh the head, I'd go ahead and re-ring it at the very least.

BUT! If M20's are plentiful where you are, I would go ahead and buy another one. Not scrapping the one you currently have but also rebuilding it and making it fresh.
If they're hard to find and insanely expensive like what people ask here, I'd work the one I have.

I find it so strange that some people show clist with ads of like 200 bucks, I have even seen free....Then some guys will sell it for way more...

so dumb...but yea if you wanna boost it....every single guy on r3v that runs turbo and dd will eventually move to an entire rebuild....just because they want to do it right the third time.

seriously if you have the, time do it right the first time.

That thing needs to be torn down and do a hone with new rings. 125 is extremely low.

              a hone and new rings+new headgasket+having to deck/plane the head+head refresh....

parts alone would cost more than simply picking up a new(used) healthy engine...

this might set be back ffs...

if I'm to do this right, I have a feeling a whole new engine is required with a fresh HD and headbolts

what's the cost roughly to get a hone and new rings set in (ballpark)?

Time is not of the essence for me anymore, I don't have any:(

I've got an 85k m20 i'm running right now. It's soon to be pulled to make room for the 5.3, should have it out in a few weeks if your interested.

                    going to do that tonight

teaspoon of oil in each cyl. and on a hot engine instead of cold.

                    see if anything happens.

                      Alrite! New results.

Tested on warm engine, with oil and at wot.

                      From firewall back:
                      160, 180, 180, 180, 200, 180.

By the time I got to the firewall, engine was much cooler might explain the 160? Regardless it's lower.

Not sure what to think now.

                        anyone? echo! echo! echo!

this is not a track monster that will be pushing the limits at every corner...simply a highway cruiser for the wife and I.

suffice to say, with the 2nd results...would this be safe to use this to boost?

                          problem is you want reliability...somewhat?

just wait it out for a free motor locally you can tear down+re tolerence+re bearing+ re-ring and gasket up fresh. if you have to do it anyways, might as well keep your car running.

                            Run it.

The increase in compression with oil points to your cylinder walls or rings being worn so your not getting out of this without a complete rebuild.

Run it till it blows. Which might not even happen

How many psi are you planning?

looking to run 8psi nothing more.

I'll run it as it...if it lasts the summer whoopdee!

I'll be looking to replace my HG+get head deck and freshened...if this engine goes, I can simply use my fresh head on the new-ish block if/when this one goes.

                              thx guys
