    Overheated, wont start

    So i was leaving philadelphia and my buddy said i had white smoke coming out of my exhaust, so as i pulled over under load the motor died.. my thermostat froze and ruined the pump. I've since replaced the pump and the thermostat, but the motor continues to crank but wont fire. i checked my sensors that would cut spark and cleaned the cap and rotor. it fired twice and i heard a loud crack from the wires and still doesn't start...anybody know what it is?

    If you were heading into Camden then that was your first mistake. If you had white smoke you probably have a blown headgasket because your car overheated from the stuck t-stat. A stuck t-stat wouldnt ruin a water pump. When the engine is cold its closed/stuck. The engine will need an overhaul. New HG, head checked for warrpage.

      sounds like you fucked your motor, white smoke means coolant in oil, that means HG.
      soooo pull your spark plugs, i'll bet they are soaking in a nice mix of shit right now.

      drain motor, check everything out, if you have any shiny flakes in the fluids coming out, thats really bad. if it were me i'd pull head and get it checked. i'd check block for cracks with a scope.

      you have a good bit of work ahead, hope its not your daily.

      oh and it could be bad or could be just semi-bad, semi-bad is more like an all nighter with friends to get it running for work, bad will be a few days depending on you and resources.

        Well i checked the oil this morning and didnt find any coolant in it, so i thought it would be something different... i was told by friends to completely drain the oil so i guess i will see tomorrow morning...

          White smoke indicates coolant getting into the combustion chamber. It doesn't necessarily have to mix with oil as the head gasket could have failed between a cylinder and a cooling passage. I wouldn't rule out a blown head gasket just because you aren't detecting obvious coolant in the oil.

            Is there a possibility that my throttle body cooling lines failed? The reason I ask is because I was taking off the throttle body to start the head gasket and I found coolant on the icv and the vacuum inlets.

                  this reminds me of when I was in philly, in my late teens at a grateful dead show in I think whats called the spectrum.

                  And theres a bridge to camden there. And theres philly rent a cops there from the event and their whole job is just to tell everyone not to walk to camden. Its dangerous.

                  Im serious. And on the other end of the bridge theres a big mob of people just waiting to mug anyone whos stupid enough to walk there.

                  Thats my whole camden story. Very famous as perpetually the mugging capitol of the country.

                    yep...lived in Philly from '81-'82. There was always one cop at each entrance into Camden after dust. Seriously, if your skin color is not right the cop turns you around real quick. The place has not changed in 30 years!
