    is this the CPS?

Ok so I tried helping someone out after they got sticker shocked to repair a water pump. I did the job (swapped water pumps) it was a nightmare as the shop determined it needed the pump and it was actually the thermostat housing leaking, but I didn't even look at it before swapping. I pulled it apart a bunch of times to finally figure out where the leak was...anyway car ran great before but now it cuts out at 4k, its like bouncing off the rev limiter only at 4k. I did get coolant on the CPS more than once but blew it out with compressed air before reassembly. I did notice the wire had a good rub spot on it and I put electrical tape on it again before even noticing a problem or reassembly. So now I swapped plugs to the new Supers and I'm not happy. This has turned into a week from hell trying to get this car out of my way. The coolant leak is gone but it will not rev past 4k for the most part and it bounces off it like I've hit the rev limiter. The check engine light only comes on while idling for more than say a minute or two and disappears the moment u touch the gas. I think that may be the o2 as he recently blew a headgasket and probably killed it with coolant I dunno. I do know the car ran past 4k before the pump job just looking for some feedback as I'm not looking forward to doing anything on this car that won't result in leaving my site.

A bad CPS can cause the symptom you describe, mine did just that when it went.

thanks for the feedback as I'm really ready to burn this thing and tell him to come and get it but I found out he didn't have full coverage..

It was the CPS ( crank position sensor ). The car no longer cuts out at 3000 rpm.

          went through this last eve,

cps went bad so had no power to fuse 11 when crancking engine, that resulted in no power to pump, hence no start.

Did fused jump cable test at relay and pump checked fine, all other relay connections were ok too, so proceded to test CPS with ohm meter, result were out of wack, swapped this morning and she's ready to roll. :)

          have a nice weekend :)
