The relay on the firewall side of the fuel pump relay is actually for the O2 sensor heater, not the ABS. Both are four pin relays and will exchange. Those aren't the same as the main relay, which is a five pin type.

Sorry, yes, its the O2 heat sensor relay. They're both 4 prong with the same part number. I just wonder what it will do to my 02 sensor temporarily that the relay does not work.

The O2 sensor just won't come up to temperature as fast and the engine may not go into closed loop operation. The best thing to do is to get a new main relay and two of the others and replace all of the relays. Toss the one that is currently in the O2 heater socket. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

She's driving me crazy now...well, typical of an E30.
The other night, after parking her for a few hours til evening, she acted up again. She didn't start.
I looked at the same box, main relay, fuel pump relay, 02 heater sensor relay, and checked connections. Nothing. No start.
Pried the back seat and opened the fuel pump so I could hear whether the fuel pump was buzzing. Everytime that I had the ignition on, it didn't buzz. Checked the terminals of the pump. I noticed that the one on the left had a zip tie on it, and was suspect. Even with the ziptie, the terminal was too easy to pull out. After a few attempts, it finally started and drove home.
So far, its good...but worried.
