    When shopping for head.

Does anybody have any advice on buying a head. Currently shopping around for a used 855 head and don't feel like dropping money and having scrap metal. Thanks in advance for any tips.

You mean an 885 head I assume.

Buy one from me and you know it'll be perfect. ;)

Ha maybe in some LSD induced dreams would that come true. Maybe one day but around a $1000 for a head is out of my range right now. Advice on what to look for is free;)

You can do a visual scan for wear but the best thing is to take it to a machine shop and have it checked. Buying used engine parts is kind of a crap shoot.

Oil, sludge etc....obviously. Friction surfaces on the cam. There are detents on the bottom of the head to indicate when it has been milled below max. Always have the machine shop check it.

Past that, the best-looking one with the fewest number of teeth.
