M20 questions

I am in the market for a E30 88-90 first BMW even though I learned how to work on them long ago, my question is about the M30 AFM what does it provide as far as helping it out? I have my setup on paper which consists of taking some meat off of the head with a good port job I hear that these motors do not respond well to polishing more fuel a cam and headers and exhaust more than likly an M3 style because I don't want noise but I keep seeing this M30 afm so I just wanted to get some feed back on it.

They all suck, get a new air metering system and a ecu to run it, you'll need it anyway for any real mods.

Well thanks for the insight needless to say you must speak for the 1% of the stupid people from the state Texes I know how to get power from a engine but there are things that I do not understand about BMW engines because I am a VW guy so I thought I would ask about some things I read to work with the mods I am going to do. So in the future if you plan to speak you mind do this fourm a service and give some advice rather than sticking you foot in your mouth.
