The best way to tighten the pump (or a left side level sensor) is with a spanner, but the next best way is with crossed screwdrivers.
I think my fuel pump is abt to shit the bed

Went and visited a local shop. I'm new to all shops around here so didn't really knwo who to take it to.
Ended up at a euro shop where they had several old MB's outside and in the shop. I spoke with the reception guy and he asked me if everything was apart (seat out etc.) which I agreed.
After takign the car to him and removing the plate, he proceeded to use a screwdriver and just finessed the pump into it's correct position...that was it. it now sits where the OE one sat. While he was working on it he proceeded to tell me that he has 4 of them and that he races them. He also could recognize my car as an 88 from the metal bumpers etc.
Boy I feel like a tool, but glad he didnt' charge me. I'll def. give those guys my business in the future!Last edited by Stanley Rockafella; 09-05-2012, 02:01 PM.If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!Comment

Mine was doing the same. Turned out all the previous times my car has died on me was from some extra weight in the backseat sitting directly on top of the fuel pump. Don't ask, I have no idea. I guess it pinched the fuel lines. Anyone else have this happen to them? Sorry for hijack.Originally posted by Wh33lhopThis is r3v. Check your vaginal sand at the door.Comment

Stanley - Glad it is working out for you.
Slaterd - Do you mean the metal fuel line? If yes, you can slowly bend it back out then use a pliers to un-kink the tube. If that does not work then just cut the fuel line and use a piece of high pressure fuel line in its place, plus a piece of barbed coupling.Comment

It would be virtually impossible to get enough weight in the back seat to damage or pinch the fuel lines. They are below the rear metal seat pan/pump cover that is under the seat.Mine was doing the same. Trace the power wire to your fuel pump. It might be nicked and shorted out when pressed by something on the seat.Comment
