    Overheated '86 325e

Hey guys, just want to start off saying I recently purchased a moderately beat up 1986 325e 5 speed as my first car.

My dad drove it home about 50 miles no problem. Today he was teaching me how to drive manual at a school parking lot and after about 30 minutes on and off of driving we had parked to get ready to go home and I noticed smoke from the passenger side of the hood. We opened it and the coolant tank was over flowing and smoking. The temp gauge never rose too high but half my gauges don't work anyways. We let it cool down and added some water and drove it the short way home.

If anyone could help me sort this problem out or inform me of possible causes of this condition I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

time to start replacing parts. Hopefully the head gasket didn't go.

At least working on the car is easy and pretty cheap.

It could be the fan clutch is bad. Waterpump is going or thermostat is stuck closed.
