    Yet another Fuel system issue thread: Need Advice here

    Hey guys, this is a newer account of mine; I haven't posted on this forum in a long time. I picked up my current E30 at the beginning of June as a new DD to keep miles off of my E46 ZHP. It's an 87 325 with 245,000 miles. I daily drove it for about a month when(what I believe) the fuel pump died.

    In the third week of DD'ing it, the car would be more hesitant at starting. When giving it aggressive throttle, the car would lose power and begin to buck. After awhile, it began to do this with regular throttle input. Finally it wouldn't start one day.

    So August comes around and I start college and a new job. I decide to sell my E30 to a friend of mine who flips cars for a profit. He buys a new fuel pump and sending unit and we install it. The car takes 5-7 cranks to start, but it runs and drives! After about 1 minute, the car stalls out and wont start. It was low on fuel, so we put half a tank in after starting it by dumping the clutch in first gear from a roll. Then things got worse.... The car keeps stalling and if you're lucky enough to get it to start it wont stay running under 1,500rpm. If you give it any more throttle, it'll either rev higher or stall out.

    The car becomes stuck in an industrial park by my house. We hitch a ride home and grab some tools to take with us back to the car. We pull the fuel filter off and drain the fuel from it(which is black).

    I plan on installing a new fuel filter on it tomorrow. I need some suggestions on what else to check, please help me out!

    It sounds like you have a major vacuum leak. Find it and fix it.

      Any suggestions on which vacuum lines to check and where they might be?

      I checked the FPRelay and FPRegulator, both tested fine.

        Intake boot is often the culprit, but have a shop perform a smoke test is the best way to find vacuum leaks. In the meantime, you can use a stethoscope to listen for hissing sounds around the engine. Major leaks can be found using the cigar method (www.scottykilmer.com).

          I'm having similar issues. How do you test the relays to see if they're not the culprit.
