    injector questions

    I just pulled my injectors out because #2 was leaking from the rail.what else should I look for or do while I have these out?ive never messed with injectors so I have no clue what im looking at.

    Leaking between the rail and injector would mean that the o-ring is bad. You can replace all of the injector o-rings and seals, but the smart thing to do would be to have the injectors professionally cleaned, rebuilt, and flow tested. I use RC Engineering for this.

          Dont goto bigger injectors. Stock ones are pretty much maxed out, m50 ones in my car only caused a high idle.

            Are you running a chip too?i was going to get cams and call around to chip manufacturers,let them know im running 19# injectors and then use a m30 afm because that afm was meant for those injectors

              There is no need to "match" the 19lb injectors with the M30 AFM. Nor is there any performance advantage to larger injectors & a chip over a chip for the stock injectors.

                I'm confused,why wouldn't changing your fuel injection, fuel management system and air flow meter not make you perform better? I mean im just trying to learn here lol what do you recommend?clean out what oem equipment was there?I'm just aiming for better more power less complicated modification lol

                  The DME contains maps and data that on average will result in stoichimetric operation. To account for manufacturing variations and wear is uses data from the O2 sensor to learn what fuel trim is necessary to achieve stoich operation. This is how you can get away with replacing the 14lb injectors with 17lb injectors and not changing the changing the chip to one with 17lb maps. The engine will run poorly until the DME figures out what reduction in fuel delivery (fuel trim) is necessary to get back to stoic. So you don't really gain anything from that.

                  A tuner can change the data to a) give the DME a different targets, b) allow the use of larger injectors. The stock injectors have enough head room for a tuner to get all that can be had from the engine. A chip tuned for 19lb injectors just has maps calling for less injector on time. The end result will be the same.

                  While the AFM does impose some restriction on mass flow, the big restriction is in the head. Improving that is expensive and even then the stock injectors are fine. You only need larger injectors if you bump up displacement to 2900cc or more, which is even more expensive.
