Ccam and crank slightly out of alignment during TB change

    Hi guys,

Hope you can help and fast as i am in the middle of a water pump and timing belt change that needs to get done this weekend but have hit a snag!

As part of the work i was changing a few other bits and pieces that made sense, including the camshaft seals. So in my planning using the R3v DIY i inserted this stuff a little too late into the steps. In hindsight i should have loosened the cam sprocket nut before removing the TB. But i didnt...

The camshaft rotated a little bit when i did remove the camshaft nut. Unfortunately the compounding problem is that the TDC marking on the cam sprocket is completely different from R3v and the Bentley so i didnt spot it until after i had done all of this.

So now i have the crank at TDC and the camshaft marking almost 180 degrees out.

Is there any way to rotate either cam and crank manually to get the marking back to where it should be so that i can figure out how off it may be?

Or do i need to place a ruler across the sprocket and align its mark with the head marker as it is right now?

This picture is how it was after i aligned the crank to TDC but before removing TB, tensioner etc

    Cheers

    Brad

Ended up marking the opposite side of the sprocket and aligning that way, which was 1 tooth off!

Confirmed by hand cranking it 4 times and getting the right alignment at both crank and cam.

    Should be ok.

        I didnt!?!

That pic is during the teardown...

The reason fir doing all of this was due to a noisy/leaking water pump
