No No, I know that part.

I was just questioning why he was talking about a literal sewing machine.

Waiting on my part to get here from Utah ( Oil drip/sprayer pipe), haven't checked the valves yet- genuinely haven't had time with work having me all over the state.

I'll update this when I get the problem solved and let everyone know what up.

Btw, the guy who sold me the car stated 'he doesn't run the oiler sprayer pipe on his E30 race cars'....lolwat?

So I finally had time to work on the car, not one of you would have guessed the cause of the clunking..

Crank pulley. 1 bolt was completely sheared off, the others maybe had another 10 miles in them before they wore completely off too.

So there we have it. Problem solved!

It WAS ugly. Lucky we were able to get the bolt out of the crank that went headless. One of the bolts had a piece of the crank still on it that broke off..

The only upside to this is- the car doesn't have rod knock, and it wasn't timing belt related.

How did that happen in the first place???

The previous owner (Owner of http://www.drive-gear.com/ ) had done the timing belt / head gaskets. As it was brought up earlier in the thread I didn't have the oil sprayer tube, which he stated ' they didn't run on their race cars'.

Well apparently they don't torque crank pulley bolts on their race cars either. Not only that, but he didn't flush the radiator or the coolant expansion tank after doing the HG job. That was a pleasant surprise.

Sorry I digress, the bolts weren't torqued.

wow, who doesn't torque their crank bolts and other critical fasteners?

                  Better check your lugbolts too.

Haha, me and my buddy went through the entire Bentley manual while we had the car on the lift and torqued all the suspension, motor, and interior (kidding..kind) pieces we could.

It's really unsettling to have bought the car from a 'reputable' E30 company/builder and have had this issue. Drove the car the last two days and not one hiccup, managed 22.3mpg too.

Hence why I do all my work since no one else will give it the attention and care I will.

I couldn't agree more. My Subaru which I have done a full 05 WRX swap was all done by my and a close friend, I know every inch of that car.

This BMW however- it's hard to tell what else may fail. Watching the Drivegear cars shake hands with the tire walls at NJMP this past weekend put a big grin on my face tho. Karma train hits hard.
