    timing belt/water pump change

hey guys my 89 325i just hit 120k miles, i was wondering if this would be a good time to do the timing belt? most cars i know of have the service done around 120k, wasn't sure if a bmw was different or not.

YES, if you dont know, always change the timing belt on an m20. if it snaps it's not cheap. you want to change it every 50-60k and do the waterpump at the same time. ive done 3 timing belt /water pump jobs this year, just because the water pump wasnt changed and then died.
    Much wow

The water pump gets replaced every other timing belt change (every four years or 50k). If you don't know when the last change was done, replace both (and the thermostat). I figure the life of the rest of the cooling system to be be no more than ten years.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
