M21 Engine, Steel Oil Pan possibilities???

So we got a e28 524TurD in at work. While working on it I notice the Oil pan is a very similar shape to our M20's . It is after all just a diesel M20.

I have some pretty terrible pictures. But its REALLY similar to the M20 oil pan. Ill try to get some better pictures soon.

I Counted 19 bolt holes before the Bell-housing cover.

The part is still available according to Penskeparts.com. But the part they show in the diagram is VERY different.

going to try to dig up some pics now. Mine are pratically worthless. Ill be working on the car more (Bolts for the alternator and power steering bracket are snapped off in the block, YAY). So more pics will be available.

    Found one from the internets....Part #11 13 1 285 808

That would be an Ideal daily driver. People are selling beat 524tds for pretty cheap on craigslist. would love to put one in a beater and have an awesome DD. In fact theres a lone engine on CL right now that I would pick up in a HEARTBEAT if i had the dough.

My question is if the 524td oil pan will bolt up to a M20 Block. Saving us from cracked Oil pans. As the part is readily available....And costs less then a skidplate.

believe it holds less oil and honestly a steel pan is not that duarable either. If dented hard enough they tear open on a crack in the metal.

Broke many an A1 chassis VW pans that way. Till I just lifted the car back up.
