fresh engine... no spark... calling all m20 guys

    hey guys

I just put in a fresh m20 in my 325is. ive got everything put in right as far as I know, no start. it will crank for days but wont fire at all. starting fluid doesn't help. I watched thespark a few min ago, and every 4-5 roatations I get spark but its not steady at all... I think im getting fuel because when I crank with the plugeout everycouple of rotations, something (I assume gas) puffs out of the plug hole.

anything you guys know will help I wanna get this car back on the road!!!!!

    Sounds like a faulty coil?

also make sure your plug wires are right

Could also be a goofy crank position sensor, or the impulse sender on the #6 wire could be bad. I'd guess the crank sensor.

Or you could have the crank position sensor and impulse sensor reversed. The plugs are not unique. I've done that one before

I left the crank sensor plugged in when I pulled the old engine so I know its not that... but ill double check... unless something broke while the car sat without en engine, I must have something wrong because everything worked when I pulled the old engine

CPS and whatever that other connector is, I don't remember, connected backwards can do that. I did it.

They clip in under the diagnostic hat thingy. Fuck me today, I can't think to save my life.

so i do think i messed something up putting it back together... if i try to start the car in neutral... nothing if i put it in gear and hold the clutch in, it moves like it would i i put it in gear with and tried starting it without the clutch held in

So it won't start in neutral, but it will try to start in gear? And when in gear with the clutch pedal down, the engine is transmitting power to the wheels? Sounds like you've got 2 very different problems.

                            Sounds like a CPS issue.
