    constant revving at idle, help!

hey guys, got a 89 325i that i just replaced the IAC motor, plugs, wires and valve cover gasket. Plugs are NGK, wires are Bavauto performance wires, used gasket sealer to put on the gasket and tightened valve cover nuts in diagonal pattern. i replaced the IAC motor because the car had a slight hesitation under acceleration between 2 and 3 grand, and I did a smoke test and the valve cover was leaking and so was the IAC motor (smoke was coming out where the plug connects). The car ran fine otherwise before i did the repairs other than the hesitation. It ran fine last night but today its doing the old "drop down to 1000rpm then jump to 2000 back down to 1000" over and over again. IAC motor was either refurbed or used, not sure which, got it on ebay, but when I unplugged it while the car was running the odd idle didn't go away, so...help!
