My chilton says the piston to bore clearance for a new engine is .0004 to .0016" and used is .005". Most of the engines ive rebuit had clearances around .003 so yea its on the tight side.
So... after checking every source I have available to me I have discovered that my piston to cylinder wall clearance should be .0004"-.0016"
Anyone else find this to be a tight fit?
Piston clearance depends on lots of things. OEM cast piston (low expansion) ? Your numbers sound about right. Make it a forged piston and the numbers will be a lot different unless it has a very aggressive slipper skirt.
