    measuring rod bearings with plastigage

tomorrow i will be replacing my rod bearings so what color plastigage will i need and per the bentley it says next to measurements for bearings with plastigage that there is "Double Classification" and "No Classification"

im unsure about how to proceed with the plastigage so i would like some clarification as to what the bentley was referring to with that and wanna be 100% about that before i do the job so nothing is left to chance.

The right way to replace the bearing is to measure the crank journals and pick the bearings by "color" from the table in the Bentley. Plasitgage can then be used as a sanity check to make sure the clearance is correct. Correct clearance will be about 1 ten thousandth per inch of journal diameter, which will tell you what to use.

well i replaced the bearings today the #5 was the bad bearing but the rest were getting past the first layer to the copper but the journals werent damaged nor were they excessively worn they were just at the max diameter on the affected rods 1.7713inch

but after i put it all back together i think i may have installed the oil pump incorrectly because i had low/no oil pressure so even after attempting to prime the system i started the car and the oil light would not turn off.

You could have a bad oil pressure switch. Temporarily replace the switch with a gauge and see what is actually happening.

The most likely error with the pump would be forgetting to put the hex drive rod back in.
