intermittent no start?

    You can use a voltmeter (test light is just easier), yes you want battery voltage (to show the circuit is closing), and you'd begin at the small post on the starter and work your way backwards. C101, connector under the dash, and ignition switch as jlevie suggested. The fact that it's intermittent does mean it's probably the ign switch, but it'd suck to do that to find out there's a bad connecton somewhere.

    Also, take your watermelons back to e46F. :p

      what pins am i testing on the c101?
      what is the connector under the dash? i'm familiar with under the dash sorta but aren't there multiple wires coming from the ignition switch?

      and idk who you are or what you mean by e46F but i can assure you these melons are mine. and they're here to stay. haha

      you wouldn't have recognized me on here if it weren't for my melons. quit staring!

        You'll have to trace the wires back or look up the wiring diagrams, I'm pretty sure the C101 pinout changed over the years/models.

          meh. i hate tracing wires.
          i'll see what i can figure out soonish. right now my e30 is just totally stuck in my wet muddy yard and is almost laying frame. so i've gotta at least get it back in the garage
