    Engine oil light

My oil indication light on cluster is not coming on when i turn on my ignition on my 325e. I have tried searching but cannot seem to find anything. Can someone explain the difference between the oil level switch and oil pressure switch pls?
    Thanx

The oil level waring in the overhead check panel tells you if the oil level is seriously low. That should be a superfluous fuction as you should be regularly checking the level via the dipstick. The light in the cluster is a warning that the oil pressure in the engine is dangerously low (at or below 7psi). If that light comes on when the engine is running shutdown the engine immediately until a shop can determine why.

In this case, the bulb could be burned out, the wiring to the sensor could have failed, or the sensor could be bad. The oil pressure switch is on the right side of the engine and the level sensor is on the left side.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

If you spend sometimes reading the Bentley you will find a lot of info. Everyone should read Chapter 4.

            Testing Oil Pressure
Test the oil pressure by removing the pressure switch (See
            Fig. 7- 1 or Fig. 7-2.) and install i n g a pressure gauge. Table z
            lists o i l pressure specifications. If testin g shows l ow o i l press
u re , one or more of the fol lowing conditions is indicated : 1 )
worn or faulty oil p u m p 2) worn or faulty bearings or 3) severe
engine wear. All of these conditions are serious and indicate
            the need for major repairs.
            Table z. lubrication System Specifications
            Oil pressure at idle
            4-cylinder engine . . . . . . . . . . . . .0 .5-2.0 bar (7-28 psi)
            6-cylinder engine . . . . . . . . . . . . .0 .5-2.0 bar (7-28 psi)
