    Spark Weirdness - help!

So I just redid my head gasket. Machined the head and had it reworked, valves, etc., new bolts, etc.

Took my time and did the job right. Checked the timing 10 million times.

Car now doesn't want to start.

Fuel pressure is ok. Fuel pump is coming on, so it's not the CPS and Pulse plug mixed up. And yes, the fuel input is going to the rail, not the regulator. Injectors are clicking and spark plugs are soaked with fuel.

I noticed that when I try cranking the car, a spark jumps from the coil wire to the outside shield of the distributor, right before the plug.

Also it's been wet and rainy out. Any ideas? I feel like it has to be a spark issue. When I pull the plugs they spark, but that spark jumping from the coil wire to the plastic shield has me worried.

The one time I got it running it ran very rough and started revving high. There was a weird whooping windup sound happening too.

Sounds like my car... are you POSITIVE your spark plugs are hooked up in right order?

Sounds like ya need new plug wires

You certainly need new ignition wires. Check for intake leaks and double check cam timing.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          OE brand wires?

Even though you are sure the cam timing is correct, check it again. My recommendation is to remove the harmonic balancer and use the mark on the crank hub.

Bremi. I checked the timing in both places before installing the belt. (By that I mean the sprocket and the balancer)

So I just replaced the coil wire with an old one I had lying around and the car fired right up. Go figure.
