    Noob question

    Ok well im trying to figure out what the sump is...Is the sump the part of the pan where the pump sits or is the sump the actual pump? im confused or i may be having a brain fart.

    The sump is the area that is the lowest part of the oil pan, where the pump pickup is. Its not really a part, more of an area

      I believe the UK fellas also refer to an oil pan as a sump.

        sump = feeding area or inlet area for the pump.
