    M20 272 Cam Install DIY

    M20 Camshaft Removal Help
Hey im new to this forum and im in desperate need of some help. I got a really good deal on a brand new 272 degree camshaft for my bmw. I took it to my local bimmer shop and they quoted me at $1500 with new gaskets included. I was absolutely shocked at the price and being only 17 years old i dont have that kind of money. Ive decided i am going to challenge myself and do the job myself. So im asking this: has anyone done a cam removal themselves or are there any guides that show how to do so? Tips or input? What exactly am i getting myself into? What is the level of difficulty in doing a job like this? ANY and all information on this topic would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thank you
    Glenn

Did you get the quote from the Bimmer shop by the mall? I think its the mall of green hills?
$1500 sounds like a fair price. You are basically rebuilding the head.

Is it worth the money? And how much of a power increase is it?

considering you have never done this job and I'm assuming that, if that's the case you might just want to keep it n the current running state. It takes the proper tools and patience to be done right and if its not it will shortly show up. I'd advise paying someone or waiting until you can get some experience to properly tackle yourself.

This sounds like your best bet since they come with the cam grind of your choice.

I just rebuilt my head with a 272 cam, p&p, 3-angle valve job, pressure tested, decked, and ie rockers for about $1050. I disassembled the head to the valves then had a shop do the rest. They replaced all the exhaust valve guides.

I should mention I reassembled the head after the head work was done. So I got it back similar to how I dropped it off. This guide is helpfully, but I would use brass punches over an extension. They're cheap.https://84.45.115.78/e30zonewiki/ind..._Cylinder_Head
