    Oil Pressure light flickering?

So today I was driving my '87 325e around and suddenly after driving it for about 2 hours on and off today my oil pressure light started flickering. It's never happened before and to be honest, the light has never gone on ever...

But it only flickers when my revs drop. So mostly when I come down to below 1300rpm's in 2nd and 1st gear. So when I'm at complete stops it also flickers.

I figured it might be the sensor or something, but I'm not sure why it only flickers during low rpms. And I wanna emphasize that it flickers too. It doesn't stay on completely solid even at idle. I haven't looked into it yet, but I'm not leaking any oil and my oil pan is new and has been on for a couple months already and I haven't changed the oil since.

    Any ideas?

How many miles? what weight of oil are you running?

If you are lucky it is just your sensor dieing, if not you need to replace you main bearings. It is not that bad. I had to at 240,000 miles on a 528e with the m20b27. Also if you are running anything lighter then 10w40 in the winter, you are not using the right oil. I tend to run 10w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer.

The causes of this could be the wrong oil, a clogged or bad filter, a bad pressure switch, or low oil pressure (below 7psi). DC doesn't get cold enough to justify 10w40 oil, 20w50 should be good year round but I doubt that is the problem. Change the filter using an OE, Mann, Mahle, or Mobil 1 part and see if that helps. If the problem persists temporarily replace the oil pressure switch with a gauge and see what the idle oil pressure is on a hot engine (one driven at highway speed for at least 30 minutes). If above 7psi at, replace the switch. If not there are problems inside the engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

i had a similar issue with my light coming on, after looking at it, the wire going to the switch was hitting on the headers causing it to ground the switch and get the light to flicker. zip tied it away from the manifold and it was gravy.

Haha. I hope it's that simple. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow.
