No shit, You got that car for 500 bucks?
I say you just look for another m20 for a few hundred and don't even waste your time trying to figure this out. In the end you will still have a pretty nice iX for under a grand.Leave a comment:

A LOT of coolant. We didn't notice it being that much until it stopped running (probably hydrolocking) and found a puddle in the snow under the exhaust. Also a ton more came out while putting it in the tow truck to get it home.I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this problem.
Lets say the headgasket is blown and is letting coolant leak into the cylinders. A small amount of coolant would just burn off and you would have a steamy exhaust. The only way coolant would run out the exhaust is if there was a LOT of it, and if there was, the engine would likely just hydrolock.
Maybe I'm envision more coolant then is actually there. How much (in ounces or cups or some other measure of volume) is coming out of the exhaust?
It's got me scratching my head a bit tooLeave a comment:

Was the replacement head checked for cracks and surfaced before installation and the block checked for warp. The block is hardly ever the problem, but at the minimum a used head must be checked for cracks and almost always has warp.Leave a comment:

Definitely have this a thought. He is a coworker of my cousins, and my cousin has said he's trust worthy. I guess I trust him because of the multiple conversations I've had with him too.
Also, selling it for $500 would be taking huge hit even if the entire motor had to be replaced, wouldn't it?Leave a comment:

Coolant (lots!) in Exhaust
Do I recently picked up this '89 325ix 5 speed for a nice $500. I'm new to the m20 but not new to cars, so hopefully the m20 gurus can help.

Only catch is, like the title states, coolant is FLOWING out of the exhaust. PO is a certified mechanic and has replaced the head and head gasket. After replacing both, the car was fine for about 150 miles or so before the issue returned.
Any suggestions on what it maybe? I'm hoping the block isnt cracked, but I'm leaning this way since the issue returned after a near new head and new head gasket were installed.
The only other thing coming to mind is improper block or head resurfacing before the new head gasket was installed, or the some other issue I may be over looking.
Thanks in advance guys!Tags: None
