    Hunting idle and surging acceleration

Ok so my BMW hunts 90% of the time on idle 2krpm and back
When I remove the oil cap it stops :s excessive blow by?
Also under throttle the car surges in power, in the exact same interval as it hunts.
Which has me thinking its a sensor or something rather then crank pressure causing it?
What else should I look at?
I've seen alot of threads about surging accel being o2 related so my first step is timing belt and o2 sensor

Yep, intake leaks are the most likely cause. Have a shop run a smoke test.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

How does removing the oil cap settle the idle? Isn't that just a big air leak too?
