    88 325IS issues

    hey guys did research before i came to post anything , got a few problems bought my e30 with m20b25 in it , engine has schrick camshaft , Mesa performance chip i was told is a built stroker now when i finally finished the body work drove it for a bit and it would backfire when warm and idk im hearing the valves ticking or the injectors < which look bad and rusted got a set off my other m20b25 that look clean , but like i said thought the valves needed adjusting sounds annoying listening to these things while driving so went for it and put them to .010 in < is that correct for these cams looked around and people have different results , car cant be driving on the road or will start shooting out flames megan straight piped exhaust as well, checked for leaks replaced what i could and seen torn which was a hidden air hose , boot everything else checked looked good , im gonna be doing a fuel pressure test as well to see if anythings messed with hat tom ill pull each plug to see if there is any fuel leaking from leaky injectors as well any help would be appreciated , i got someone that worked on bmws for a living see it but... is held up with work and i cant wait as its my dd

    Incorrect cam timing or incorrect air/fuel ratio is the likely cause of the back firing.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      okay so atm idle is bad if i take out my plugs i have a few that are black and a few that are white im thinking it might be something with the injectors not to sure atm , they look rusted to shit.. but was wondering since i do have a chip whats the best injectors i can install well i mean highest , well it was running before just basically had the small backfire it was built down in toronto and i bought it from someone in calgary , timing when i did the valve adjust ment looked about right , for the air/fuel mixture smells lean what should i be looking at first today im gonna see if i got any leaky injectors by pulling the plugs then checking the fuel regulator by pulling the vac line and seeing if any fuel is getting in the line , thanks for the respons

        Which cylinders were black and which were white? If the colors followed bank order the cause could be in the injector harness or C191. Bank 1 is cylinders 1, 3, & 5 and bank 2 is 2, 4, & 6. The injectors are fired by bank.

        By all means check the FPR vacuum hose for fuel. The tee in a gauge and check rail pressure. If you can't find a problem with fuel delivery and a noid light shows each injector firing, pull the injectors and have them rebuilt.

        Unless the chip you have was specifically tuned for larger than stock injectors there is no advantage to be gained from larger injectors.

        Pull the stuff off the front of the engine to expose the cam sprocket and crank hub and double check cam timing.

          okay ill get right on doing all those im also gonna re check my cams , so the valve clearance for the schrick cam is the same so i would use a .25mm/ .010 feelergauge just wanna make sure of all that

            Since valve clearance is more driven the the thermal characteristics of the head and valves, I'd think the OE clearance should be correct. But you could talk to Shrick...

              okay i need your help with this i found the manual for the cams if you could just tell me if its correct says something like 0.25 which should be .010in 0.25mm

                Okay got a mechanic to look at it that has worked on bmws for a while , he told me what i was doing was correct and everything was alright its a wireing problem now... i went and looked at my crank position sesnor yea... my belt chewed the frikin thing up a bit and had basically been chewing it would this cause the problem because its sennding bad signals to the ecu

                    i did car works fine fix was the CPS it was partly cut and backfireing a bit then it finally started going insane fixed it and it idles good with no hesitation when i full throttle it thanks for the help guys!
